So here is what I am thinking: people constantly run into themselves.
Here is a sad motivational quote: “At the end of the year, I want to say, ‘Damn, I really believed in myself, and it worked”
This is a very sad motivational quote indeed. First, the person who wished for this quote will never end up saying it. She is running away from herself, desperate to hold her true self at bay for at least 12 months, to get a quick fruit and never to return to the old (true) self again!
We all get like this. The 12-week, 4-week, 7-week, 6-month programs know our innate desire and calling ‘shooting stars’ into our reality. We grasp and grasp and make wishes and never get to the other shore that leaves a gulf between ‘us’ and ‘new us’.
I wished for so long to be someone else. Many people I wished to be. And I thought if I only buckle down for a couple of months, I will never return, if only for a year, my life will never be the same. And so, I would pull out a diary and write a big, marvelous, intimidating and inspiring plan for how I will paddle away from myself never to return. And here I was paddling and crashing into myself with every wave. Turns out I am the gulf between the shores.
